Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton
A Pennsylvania State University faculty member since the year 1979, Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, holds several special acknowledgements to her credit. Dr. Kris-Etherton is Penn State’s Distinguished Professor in Nutrition and has been since 1996. At present, she is actively associated in the capacity of a member, with the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the SNE, The American Dietetic Association, the ASN (American Society for Nutrition), and the Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi. She is also an active member of the Nutrition Committee of American Heart Association, and several other AHA Councils. She is also on the NLA (National Lipid Association) and Women Heart Board. Included in her current functions is her role as a President for NLA’s Northeast chapter, and Shaping America’s Health.
Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton’s expertise has been availed of by several authoritative panels of review and distinguished national committees, which include the American Heart Association Nutrition Committee; Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee for Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2005; the Panel on Macronutrients of NAS; the Nutrition Study Section of National Institutes of Health; the American Society for Clinical Nutrition/American Institute of Nutrition (ASCN/ AIN) Task Force on Trans Fatty Acids; WomenHeart, and the NCEP ATP (Adult Treatment Panel) II. There are also several editorial board positions in Dr. Kris-Etherton’s professional history, which include such journal names as the International Journal of Sports Nutrition, AJCN, Lipids, Journal of Nutrition Education, Current Atherosclerosis Reports, Journal of the American Dietetic Association, and The Journal of Clinical Lipidology.
More than 200 scientific papers of Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton have been published, and she has to her credit 25 book chapters. She also holds the status of co-author for four books. The American Society for Nutritional Sciences bestowed her with the 1991 Lederle Award in Human Nutrition. In 1998, the American Dietetic Association awarded the 1998 Foundation Award to Dr. Kris-Etherton for research excellence. In 2001, Dr. Kris-Etherton was given the honor of becoming American Heart Association’s Fellow. The American Dietetic Association Foundation awarded her the Elaine R. Monsen Award for Research in 2005. In honor of the contribution of Dr. Kris-Etherton to the dietetic field, the ADA (American Dietetic Association) bestowed on her its supreme award, the Marjorie Hulsizer Copher award.
Dr. Alex Schauss
Dr. Alex Schauss holds a Doctorate and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition (FACN). He has been providing his expertise to AIBMR Life Sciences, Inc., Puyallup, Washington, USA, in the capacity of a lead scientist in the Company’s Natural and Medicinal Products Division, for more than 20 years. An Adjunct Professor of Research, Botanical Medicine, Dr. Schauss has served in the role of Clinical Professor for Portland, Oregon-based NCNM’s (National College of Natural Medicine) Natural Products Research.
Dr. Schauss, in the capacity of a member, has served the NIH, NIH’s Ad Hoc Developmental Planning Committee functioning under the Institute’s Office of Dietary Supplements, and the Office of Alternative Medicine Advisory Council. Dr. Schauss has also been with the USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia Convention), functioning as a reviewer for monographs on botanical information, and botanical standards. Dr. Schauss has also been a reviewer of IBIDS database, which undergoes maintenance through the National Agricultural Library, USDA, and the Food and Nutrition Information Center. Dr. Schauss represented America as WHO’s Health Promotion Study Group’s voting member.
There are over 150 works authored/ co-authored by Dr. Schauss. These works have been published in an extensive and a variety of journals on science. The ACAM (American College for Advancement of Medicine) awarded Dr. Schauss with the 2005 Linus Pauling Lecture Award. Dr. Schauss appears in Who’s Who in the World, American Men and Women of Science, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in America, and International Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
Dr. Stephen T. Talcott
Dr. Talcott, PhD, holds the position of an Associate Professor in Food Chemistry at Texas A&M University’s Department of Nutrition and Food Science. Prior to this, Dr. Talcott had functioned in the role of an Associate Professor in Food Chemistry for the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department of University of Florida. Dr. Talcott earned his Doctorate in the discipline Food Science and Technology from the University of Arkansas.
A professional member of the world’s largest food science organization The Institute of Food Technologists, Dr. Talcott is involved in the processing, research, and promotion of vegetables and fruits componential of bioactive elements. Before his specialization, Dr. Talcott provided his expertise to Texas-based Silliker Laboratories, in his role of Supervisor of Chemistry.
As a top authority on acai berry, Dr. Talcott’s has contributed significantly on the subject since 2002. Dr. Talcott’s contributions have commanded great attention and have been of paramount importance in elevating the degree of understanding on acai berry’s stability, its phytochemistry, salability, and benefits for health. His has disseminated his knowledge over the subject through innumerable articles. More than 55 peer-reviewed articles of Dr. Talcott have appeared in major journals on food chemistry. He has also to his credit 6 book chapters and more than 50 technical abstracts. Dr. Talcott also has specialist knowledge of the alterations and stabilization undergone by antioxidant compounds through after-harvest process, food processing, and preservation.
Dr. Nathan D. Wong
Dr. Nathan D. Wong holds a PhD and Masters (Master of Public Health, M.P.H). He works in the capacity of Professor at the School of Medicine of Irvine’s University of California (UCI). He is the Director of UCI’s Heart Disease Prevention Program. Dr. Wong holds the status of Fellow at the American College of Cardiology and the AHA’s Council on Epidemiology and Prevention.
Dr. Wong holds the credit of authoring/ editing over 100 works including 3 textbooks, book chapters and peer-evaluated publications. He holds editorial board appointments of American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs, Preventive Cardiology, and Journal of the Cardiometabolic Syndrome.
